The procedure
Send funds to your WhiskyInvestDirect account by making a bank transfer. Client money is held at Wells Fargo (US Dollars) and Lloyds Bank (British Pounds and US Dollars). Find the correct bank details for your currency and bank country by logging in and going to ACCOUNT > DEPOSIT.
What happens next ?
- Your bank will send your funds to our bank through the banking system.
- Our bank notifies us when we receive your money. We process new deposits during normal UK business hours and will apply them to your WhiskyInvestDirect account. Payments received outside UK business hours are normally processed on the following working day.
Read about why WhiskyInvestDirect does not accept credit and debit cards.
About linking to your bank account
WARNING! Your WhiskyInvestDirect account is locked to your bank account. Once you have sent us money the first time we will only ever accept further deposits to your WhiskyInvestDirect account from the same bank account, and we will usually only remit funds back to the same bank account*. These are the precautions required by UK and international anti-money laundering regulations and by us to improve your security.
*Exceptions may arise if events make it inappropriate to remit your funds to your current bank.
Acceptable currencies
When you open your WhiskyInvestDirect account you choose which currency you want to operate your account in (British Pounds or US Dollars). When you log in to your account you will be able to see our bank accounts for your chosen currency.
If you send a different currency, you have two options:
- Send us funds in your preferred currency. These will be converted by our bank at their current exchange rate. WhiskyInvestDirect has no control over the exchange rate, but Lloyds Bank has agreed to cap their FX margin at 0.5%, which is comparable to leading currency converters.
- Alternatively, you may try to find a better deal by converting your funds into British Pounds or US Dollars and then sending them to us. You could use your bank's foreign exchange department to arrange the conversion, selling you British Pounds or US Dollars. Or you could use a currency-conversion specialist. We do not recommend one particular currency conversion specialist over another and advise our customers that they may have to validate each deposit.
We do have the following pages to help our users understand the processes for transferring funds via these currency conversion specialists:
